TLOS And Saklikent

TLOS Saklikent

Spectacular in the spring with snow on the mountains that stand tall behind the theater, it’s an interesting Lycian city in Asia Minor, in the Mediterranean region of Turkey, because of the presence of the Ottoman fortress of “Bloody Ali” (Kanli Ali in Turkish), a local brigand in addition to the Lycian and Roman remains.
The 19th century archaeologist Charles Fellows who re-discovered Tlos in 1838, and several other nearby sites, had this to say about the approach to Tlos: “The whole ride down this upper valley is beautiful and varies continually; it’s scenery, on approaching the bold Greek like situation of the ancient city of Tlos, is strikingly picturesque”.

Nice to approach on foot if you feel up to it. A dolmus (local transportation by minibus) running along the little road that serves Xanthos and Saklikent can drop you at the bottom of the access road and the 4 kilometers (2,5 miles) hike gives you a feeling for the situation of the city. It’s the sort of site you can take in quickly or linger on for an afternoon.

Here you can see the tomb of Bellephoron. The carvings on the tomb represent Tlos’ main claim to archaeological significance. On the slope of the hill there are several Lycian sarcophagi and some other rock tombs. Another feature is Yedikapi, The seven doors or gates in Turkish. Following signs for the Hamam or Turkish baths you’ll come to a very dramatic set of seven arches overlooking the whole valley. Don’t miss the theater. Some charming carvings scattered about and the backdrop of the mountain range and the valley is hard to beat for spectacle. Other ruins in the city include a Roman stadium with a capacity of 2,500 people and a 150 meters-long agora (market) next to it.

Myra Demre

yacht turkey holidays

Myra features some of the most impressive and well preserved Lycian monuments in the country. These include an excellent collection of rock tombs and an imposing 2nd century theater.

Many of the tombs have log cabin features carved into the rock, presumably reflecting the domestic architecture of the period. A few easily accessible ones have inscriptions in the Lycian language. Carvings above are mostly in poor repair but the overall effect of this jumble of the architecture of death is dramatic.
The theater, like many others in major Roman cities, was later converted into an arena for gladiator fights and wild animal shows. Many carvings and inscriptions in the theater are still visible, and cavernous tunnels and access ways to the side have been cleared. While much of the seating is intact, the stage building is partly collapsed. A macabre set of three carved masks, presumably from the frieze, lies among the jumble of remains in the approach to the theater.

Today Demre is an important agricultural town on the Mediterranean coast of Anatolia. Around Demre there are also ruins of Andriake on Çayagzi beach and Kekova, Simena and Teimussa which are accessible by a short boat ride or some car driving.

There may someone who already has made plans for their next summer holiday even if there is winter. Whether your route is for Aegean, Mediterrenean coves  and Greek Islands or not It is able to set your own route by creating your group. You may have enjoyable moments with your loved ones.

In blue cruise, the company which is given the service, is very important. Company must be confidential, the staff must be expert and yachts’maintenance must  been done. Nobody would like to have any problems during the vacation. It is possible to face some minor problems but the yacht crew experience more importantly in that issue. Even if there are minor problems, an experienced captain must solve these problems without disturbing other passengers. Moreover passengers must be careful about the rules. We should follow some binding rules for our own safety. These rules will be reminded before boarding and chartering.

Astypalea Island

private yacht charter in turkey

Astypalea – one of the most beautiful islands of Greece !
Butterfly Aegean Sea , as they call this island locals call for its shape. Astypalea located between the Cyclades and the Dodecanese , and combines itself with the features of these two districts. From the air the island looks like a butterfly , the left of which is mountainous and almost treeless but  below the right side is covered by forest .Wonderful place for rock climbing and hiking through the narrow mountainous paths .

Clean beaches , picturesque trees and neat buildings reminiscent of the Cyclades. Astypalea has a rich history , emphasizing the rugged beauty of the island.Nice news for hikers seeking to climb into the most secret corners : Astypalea – almost the only one of the Greek islands , where there are no snakes. The fact that this island is very rich about springs and streams, too mach storks often come to the island, so they deleted all snakes on the island.

In the city center there are old Venetian fortress . Inside the fortress are two churches Virginia Annunciation and St. George.Although Astypalea  not so mach a tourist spot in the town there are many bars with very different kind of music and institutions working until a morning. There are too many cozy taverns. From meat of hare and fish , seafood  till a  lobster , which can be ordered with the Italian style pasta Astipalea are famous. What about snacks there are delicious traditional cheeses and unusual taste butter with taste of cheese ” sinkafuro “.  Nice habit of the islanders and visitors after a big selibration to climb up to the fortress to meet sunshine all together!

HISTORY OF BODRUM

blue cruises turkey

The first recorded settlers in Bodrum region were the Carians and the harbor area was colonized by Dorian Greeks as of the 7th century BC. The city later fell under Persian rule. Under the Persians, it was the capital city of the satrapy of Caria, the region that had since long constituted its hinterland and of which it was the principal port. Its strategic location ensured that the city enjoyed considerable autonomy. Archaeological evidence from the period such as the recently discovered Salmakis (Kaplankalesi) Inscription, now in Bodrum Museum of Underwater Archaeology, attest to the particular pride[clarification needed] its inhabitants had developed.[4] A famous native was Herodotus, the Greek historian (484-420 BC). Surviving substructures and ruins of the Mausoleum of Mausolus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, in Halicarnassus (modern Bodrum.) Mausolus ruled Caria from here, nominally on behalf of the Persians and independent in practical terms for much of his reign between 377 to 353 BC. When he died in 353 BC, Artemisia II of Caria, who was both his sister and his widow, employed the ancient Greek architects Satyros and Pythis, and the four sculptors Bryaxis, Scopas, Leochares and Timotheus to build a monument, as well as a tomb, for him. The word “mausoleum” derives from the structure of this tomb. It was a temple-like structure decorated with reliefs and statuary on a massive base. It stood for 1700 years and was finally destroyed by earthquakes. Today only the foundations and a few pieces of sculpture remain.
